Alloy 400 is highly regarded as one of the best performing engineering alloys. Aside from having superior resistance to corrosion, the primary resistance of Monel 400 Flanges is best suited to Alkylation units. Concentrated acids such as hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid are used in these units in the petrochemical industry to convert alkenes to alkylate.

Both sulfuric acid as well as hydrofluoric acid are highly corrosive solutions and can easily corrode metals, without good resistance to reductive agents. But since the chief alloyant in the ASTM B564 UNS N04400 SORF Flange is nickel, the resistance to these particular reductive solutions is strong. In fact, in comparison to nickel, the corrosion resistance properties of UNS N04400 Orifice Flange tend to be much higher than nickel itself. From a human health perspective, the Nickel 400 Spectacle Blind Flange, which is used to clean, inspect or modify piping systems is effective in completely blocking or sealing off pressure vessels that could contain hydrofluoric acid, which again, is a contact poison.
Another important characteristic of Monel 400 Blind Flange is its resistance to halides or halogen containing solutions. At room temperature settings, Monel 400 exhibits slight magnetic behavior, thus, the use of WNR 2.4360 Reducing Flange could also be extended to applications that require magnetic characteristics to a certain degree. The Alloy 400 Slip-on Flange is often seen in the marine industry as the alloy exhibits have good resistance to not only seawater but also to high velocity brackish water.
